Bird flu in 5 more Krushnaprasad villages

Bhubaneswar: Bird flu was reported to have spread in five more villages in Krushnaprasad block in Puri district. A team of the Rapid Action Force has visited the five districts- Nandala, Kantabania, Nuagaon, Udayagiri and Naba village, to take stock of the situation. As many as eight kites were found dead in the area. It may be noted that the avian influenza had affected birds in five gram panchayats earlier. Hundreds of crows and hens were found dead. Blood samples of some dead birds were tested positive for H1N1 virus i.e. bird flu. Later, thousands of hens were culled by  wildlife officials. Consumption of chicken and egg has been banned in the area since then.
