Biosphere of Karlapat and Sunabeda sanctuary to be redefined

Bhubaneswar, April 24: Area of Karlapat and Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuaries is going to be redefined soon. Standing Committee of State Wildlife Board headed by Minister for Forest and Environment Bikram Keshari Arukha approved a proposal in this regard on Friday. As per the decisions, the periphery of Karlapat Sanctuary in Bhawanipatna will be extended from 184 square kilometre to 194.The green habitat will be developed accordingly to house more wildlife in it. Similarly,the domain of Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary in Koraput district will be redefined. As much as 10,965 hectares of its surface will be eliminated which is studied to be densely populated. On the other hand, 13,313 hectare scarcely populated area will be adjoined to the sanctuary creating a friendly environment for flora and fauna. Apart from it, the board put its signature on construction of Barsha and Jeti shelter home within the environmentally sensitive area under Bhitarakanika National Park.
