New Delhi, Jan 14: At least one person died while another was grievously injured after two bike borne men collided head-on with police vehicle escorting Meghalaya Home Minister, Lakhmen Rymbui on Thursday afternoon.
Following the accident, the Bike rider Joakim Marak (45) of East Garo Hills District’s Dobu died on the spot while the pillion was grievously injured and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
According to Sources, the incident occurred when Rymbui was on his way to Willaimnagar to attend a high-level meeting related to law and order while the two men coming from the opposite direction collided with the carcade.
East Garo Hills District’s Superintendent of Police Bruno A Sangma informed that a case has been registered regarding the incident and further action would follow after the enquiry report.
Sangma also said that immediate assistance is being provided to the bereaved family while the injured individual is being treated in Williamnagar Civil Hospital.
