Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India on Monday issues notification for the bypoll to Bijepur Assembly constituency in Odisha, which is scheduled to be held on October 21.
As per the notification, the filing nomination started today and would continue till September 30 and the nominations will be scrutinised the next day, i.e. October 1. The final list of valid candidates will also come by 5 am on the day.
Candidates can withdraw nominations by October 3 evening. Counting of votes and declaration of result will be held on October 24.
The bypoll was necessitated after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik vacated the seat retaining his old Hinjili constituency in Ganjam district. He had won from both seats in the Assembly polls held in April 2019.
As many as 2,32,005 voters comprising 1,19,916 males, 1,12,074 females and 15 thirdgenders are eligible to exercise franchise during the upcoming bypoll, according to reports.
