Siwan, Oct 24: At least four people were killed and more casualties are feared after a powerful explosion ripped through a house in Alampur village in Bihar’s Siwan district on Friday evening.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a licensed firecracker manufacturing unit was operating inside the house where the blast occurred.
The explosion was so intense that debris from the building fell onto the road. Siwan District Magistrate Vijay Prakash Meena and Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni reached the spot to oversee the situation.
Meena said rescue teams had recovered badly dismembered bodies from the debris. He added that the exact number of casualties was yet to be confirmed as identification efforts were underway.
According to local residents, the firecracker unit was operating from the house of Mohammad Amiruddin Mian, reportedly a prominent firecracker trader.
Police said several people were present inside the house when the firecrackers exploded. The flames subsequently spread to other firecrackers stored on the premises, triggering a series of explosions. The blasts reportedly continued intermittently for nearly two hours.
A local resident, Junaid Rizvi, described the scene as horrific, claiming that body parts were scattered across the area following the explosion.
Further details about the casualties and the cause of the blast are awaited as the investigation continues.
