Biggest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases continues in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 5: With 1216 new Covid-19 cases being detected in the last 24 hours, the Khordha district continued to remain one of the epicenters for the pandemic. The district has reported a total of 1,82,896 cases, the highest in the state. The number of daily cases since six days breached the 100-mark on December 31, 2021. The administration has been taking all the preventive measures to keep the situation under control in rural areas but the infection in Bhubaneswar forms the biggest chunk of the total cases detected in the district. On the other hand, Cuttack now is in a plateau stage as the daily positive cases are hovering around 50-80 cases from the last two to three days. The district has a total of 95,868 confirmed cases and 328 active cases. However, 94,676 people have recuperated from the virus and 860 people have succumbed to it so far. Sambalpur has been seeing rise in the number of Covid cases in recent days. The daily cases have soared to 99 from yesterday’s 42 Covid cases. In the last 24 hours, the active cases in the district are 99 while the number of recovery cases till date is 31,958. The health authorities said multiple clusters have been reported from educational institutions across the state leading to the surge of Covid-19 cases. On the other hand, Odisha’s Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik directed the concerned authorities to keep all the government and private Covid hospitals ready in the state in the next 10 days. With two deaths and 121 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the state has now 3981 active cases.
