Big catch for Odisha fisherman: 90 rare Telia Fish fetch Rs 1 crore

Balasore, Oct 12: A big catch from the mouth of Bay of Bengal near Odisha’s Balasore, changed the fate of a fisherman on Sunday.

While, everyday in the rainy season was almost dry for the traditional mariner due to scantier fish production, a catch of as many as 90 ‘Telia Bhola’ fish this morning, weighing at least 3.10 quintal, fetched him Rs. 1 crore.

Reputed pharmaceuticals from Kolkata, producing probiotics and staple antioxidants exchanged the rare  fish for the sizeable sum, with the fisherman identified as Asiq Khan.

According to reports, Khan had ventured into the deep sea in the wee hours with his crew members. While he was sailing across the Digha coast, he caught a flock of at least 90 Telia Bhola fish that is enriched in liver oil and other nutrients, essential for developing probiotic and vitamins.

On being informed, Ajit Badai, owner of a West Bengal based Pharmaceuticals reached at Digha beach to purchase the lot of Telia fish for his company. Meanwhile, a number of bidders also reached out there for collecting the oil-rich fish for their firms. Finally, Badai became the highest bidder paying Rs 1 crore to secure the therapeutically significant fishes for his pharma.
