Bhubaneswar's Gandamunda-Jagamara Road Becomes Accident Hotspot

Bhubaneswar, Ap 15: Traveling on the Gandamunda-Jagamara road has become a nightmare for commuters as the route has turned into a major accident hotspot due to temporary concrete patches and potholes.

The road has been in a vulnerable state for two months, and frequent accidents are occurring every day on the road undergoing repair work.

Recently, the road was partially repaired with a concrete patch, but it has proven ineffective. Despite efforts to repair the road, the road remains uneven with patches of concrete that have ruined, further increasing the risk of accidents.

The company, which had opened the road to carry out repairs, has left it in a state of negligence. The concrete was not leveled properly, leaving uneven surfaces and holes in the middle of the road, creating hazardous driving conditions. This poor repair work has directly contributed to the rising number of accidents in the area.

Under regulations, a proper road opening process should involve payment of necessary fees before the repairs. After this, the concerned department should give permission to open the road. However, in this case, the required formalities were either not followed or were ignored. The repair work done so far only includes a partial patching of the road, which has not been thoroughly inspected or fixed by the authorities.

As a result, there is growing concern about the roads’ safety. Local drivers have reported frequent breakdowns and accidents, especially during peak traffic times. The poor condition of the road has also led to traffic jams, which further exacerbate the danger.

Earlier, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) had imposed restrictions on opening the road unless necessary, but the ongoing issues suggest that proper monitoring and procedures were not followed.

Authorities must take immediate action to address the worsening condition of the road and ensure that thorough repairs are carried out to prevent further accidents.
