Bhubaneswar, Dec 18: Continuing its efforts to promote Transport for all for a greener, livable, sustainable city and to promote use of public transport, the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) today organised a rally to spread awareness. Around 60 peer leaders (Pragati Sathis) and staff of BSCL participated in the rally with placards appealing citizens to use public transport. The rally started from Rajmahal Square and ended at the iconic Temple Plaza. The idea was to sensitize the citizens of Temple City about the advantages of Public Transport. By using public transport, we can preserve the environment. The use of public transport will reduce pollution. Public transport can carry many more people to their destinations compared to individual automobiles and hence reduce traffic congestion. Public transport reduces air pollution. Since it moves many people on one vehicle, it produces substantially less air pollution per passenger compared to other means. It increases fuel efficiency per passenger per mile reducing the overall energy required for transportation. The officials of BSCL under the guidance of Kamaljit Das, General Manager coordinated the event along with the volunteers of Humara Bachpan Trust. In order to make the Temple City a livable place and environment-friendly, the Bhubaneswar Smart City has adopted a series of initiatives and several cycle tracks are being developed under the NMT Priority Network. Also, through the awareness drives under the Cycles4Change Challenge the city is organizing a series of activities to promote cycling.
