Bhubaneswar, June 25: Bhubaneswar mayor Sulochana Das on Monday directed to complete de-siltation of all the drains and natural water channels of the capital city by June end.
Reviewing the ongoing de-siltation work of 11 main drains and four connecting drains with the chief engineer and other agencies engaged, Das directed to complete de-siltation of internal drains by June end so that flash flood prone and low-lying areas of the city do not face deluges experienced in the past.
Besides, she directed to complete de-siltation of natural stormwater channels by July 15.
The private agencies have been directed to complete drain de-siltation work within a week to tackle waterlogging issues in the city, said a BMC official. Several new drains have been constructed at vulnerable points that experienced waterlogging last year, the official added.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has activated toll-free number 1929 to receive calls from citizens regarding waterlogging problems.
