Bhubaneswar man seeking MBBS seat for daughter duped of Rs 22L

Bhubaneswar, Sept 19: Rishi Kumar Patel of the Pokhariput area in the city was duped to the tune of Rs 22 lakh by a bookstore owner on the pretext of getting his daughter's admission to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack.

Patel was approached by one Jagannath Prasad Mohanty of his locality who promised an admission in the SCBMCH.

Patel was a regular customer of Mohanty, who runs a bookstore cum stationary shop.

Mohanty also visits Patel's house and develops a closeness with him. He convinced Patel to give money with a promise of getting his daughter admission to the MBBS course.

Patel gave in around Rs 22 lakh in phases within a month after which Mohanty did not respond to his phone call. Later, Patel filed a complaint at the Airport police station in this regard.

We have launched an investigation into the complaint registering a case, said police.
