Bhabanipur by-poll: Clash breaks out between TMC, BJP workers; 53.32% turnout till 5 pm

Bhabanipur, Sept 30: A clash broke out between workers of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bhabanipur constituency of West Bengal. The police reached the spot and took control of the situation. The constituency has hogged media attention as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has been elected twice from Bhabanipur earlier, is contesting against two young faces — BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal and the CPM’s Srijib Biswas Earlier, BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal had alleged booth capturing at the polling booth of ward number 72. The voter turnout at the Bhabanipur constituency stood at 53.32 per cent at 5 pm on Thursday. Polling began at 7 am on Thursday for the by-polls to the Bhabanipur seat and two other constituencies amid tight security and stringent Covid-19 measures.
