Bhubaneswar, Mar 28: Many fraudulent websites on cyberspace are offering passport consultancy services for online passport-related services. These fraudulent websites collect data from applicants and also charge hefty fees for filling up the online application form. Some of these fake websites are registered in the top domain name “.org, .in, .com” for passport related services.
i. When an applicant visits these fraudulent sites, it looks like the official Passport Seva website.
ii. Applicants are asked to fill various personal data required for passport on the online application form.
iii. Website charges processing fee after filling up the online application form and fake appointment is booked and Fake appointment slip is generated. iv. When applicants visit Passport Seva Kendra, they discover that there is no such appointment and contact details provided by the website may not even work for a refund of money.
i. Always apply through the official website www.passportindia.gov.in for a passport in India and use the mPassport Seva app for Android phones and the Apple iPhone which can help applicants with the application process and scheduling of appointment.
ii. Don’t share personal information and pay any registration charges on any website before thoroughly verifying the source.
