Berhampur, March 29: The Berhampur Circle Jail in Odisha's Ganjam district has been awarded the prestigious 'Eat Right Campus' certification by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), an official confirmed on Saturday.
The 'Eat Right Campuses' initiative, launched by FSSAI, aims to promote safe, healthy, and sustainable food practices across various campuses, including workplaces, educational institutions, and hospitals, with the goal of improving public health.
The FSSAI, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, issued the certificate to Berhampur Circle Jail for a period of two years, from March 24, 2025, to March 23, 2027, awarding it three stars for satisfactory compliance, the official said.
This significant recognition highlights the 162-year-old jail's commitment to ensuring the food safety and well-being of its inmates. The certification process involved rigorous assessments and compliance with FSSAI's prescribed evaluation standards.
The jail campus undergoes thorough audits to ensure it meets various criteria, such as maintaining basic hygiene and providing healthy meals to the inmates.
