Puri, May 16: The Singha Dwara Police here detained a youth as he was trying to climb the Nata Mandap of Puri Jagannath Temple today.
The youth has been identified as Rakesh Hajra, a resident of West Bengal.
As per reports, Rakesh was trying to climb the Nata Mandap this afternoon when the servitors, fire officials along with police foiled his attempt and rescued him.
Although the exact reason behind such attempt is yet to be ascertained, police have started an investigation into the incident.
Earlier on May 1, a transgender, Balaram Rout (36), a resident of Nimapara, died after jumping off the ‘gumuta’ of Jagannath temple.
Several such incidents have raised questions over the security of the temple
