Bhubaneswar, June 23: The Bansadhara Tribunal has rejected Odisha’s plea and allowed Andhra Pradesh to construct barrage on the river Bansadhara at Neredi. A three member bench led by the Chairperson of the tribunal Dr. Mukundakam Sharma issued notifications in this connection on Tuesday. Besides, the water tribunal has also rejected the Centre’s statutory correspondence in this connection on Tuesday. Similarly, the tribunal has issued advisory to both the states in order to utilize water from the Neredi barrage amicably. According to the ruling, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh will divide the water of the said barrage proportionately. However, Andhra Pradesh will get 8000 cusec of water through the lower sluice gate during June and November while the gate will be sluiced off at other times for the sake of Odisha. Similarly, Andhra Pradesh will assess the post construction issues like eviction and livelihood of the project affected people and undertake rehabilitation and resettlement in the catchment.
