Balesore FM college student’s condition stable after brave rescue attempt: Doctors

Bhubaneswar, July 16: The health condition of Jyotiprakash Biswal, a student of Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Balasore, is now stable, according to doctors treating him at Acharya Harihar Health Centre in Cuttack.

Biswal had sustained serious burn injuries while attempting to rescue a fellow student who had set herself on fire on the college campus on July 12.

Biswal was the only student who rushed to help the 20-year-old woman as she attempted self-immolation in protest against the alleged inaction in a sexual harassment complaint against a faculty member.

While the woman suffered approximately 95% burn injuries, Biswal sustained burns on both his hands, face, and arm during the rescue attempt. Tragically, the woman succumbed to her injuries at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Monday night.
