Balangir, Jan 13: The famous Sulia Yatra in Balangir district will be held on January 19 this year.
The organising committee finalised the date of the festival in a meeting held on Tuesday and prepared a blueprint for the same.
The members of the committee decided to perform animal sacrifice during the festival.
The holy site of the Sulia Yatra is set to have a blood bath as hundreds of pet birds and animals are going to be sacrificed at the presiding deity Sulia Budha of tribals at Khairguda under Deogaon block in Bolangir district.
Sulia Yatra is being celebrated for hundreds of years. It takes place on the second Tuesday of the month of Pausha.
Sulia Yatra is named after the god Sulia of tribal communities. The place is surrounded with nature. The animal sacrifice is a long tradition of the Kandha tribes. They believe that offering of blood will bring success and prosperity to the community.
