Balangir, Apr 22: After a medical student of Bhima Bhoi Medical College & Hospital in Balangir died falling from the hostel terrace earlier today, his family members have alleged that their ward was ragged in the hostel following which he committed suicide.
According to media reports, the deseased, Nishant Kumar’s uncle has said that Kumar kept calling home for last four days and had narrated the ordeal he went through.
However, the circumstances the incident happened are still uncertain.
On the other hand, the Dean of the medical college, Sabita Mohapatra said that the college authority has setup a 10-member anti-ragging committee to investigate the incident.
“We have set up a 10-member anti-ragging committee. We also have an anti-ragging squad. Every day a group of faculty visits the boys and girls hostel for monitoring the situation in hostel rooms of first-year students.” Mohapatra said.
At the same time the Dean has refuted all the ragging allegations saying that there is no chance of ragging in the college’s hostel.
“There is no chance of ragging within the hostel premises as the squads keep a track of the same. I haven’t yet received any complaint regarding ragging incident from anyone.” Mohapatra added.
