Bhubaneswar, Aug 4: The mortal remains of the 15-year-old girl from Balanga, who succumbed to severe burn injuries, arrived at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar yesterday.
The body was brought from Delhi aboard IndiGo flight 6E 2201, accompanied by four family members. The teenager had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS Delhi before she passed away on Sunday evening.
To prevent any untoward incidents, tight security was deployed outside the airport. Six platoons of police forces were stationed to maintain law and order.
Leaders from various political parties, including members of the ruling BJP, were present at the airport to pay their final respects to the young victim.
The final rites are scheduled to take place today at victim’s native Bayabar in Puri district.
Worth mentioning, the girl was reportedly set on fire by unidentified individuals on July 19, suffering over 70% burns. Initially treated at a local hospital, she was later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar and subsequently airlifted to AIIMS Delhi for advanced care. Despite efforts, she could not survive.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage across Odisha and beyond, with opposition parties criticizing the state government’s handling of women’s safety.
However, police have stated that no foul play was involved in the incident. In a video statement, the girl’s father expressed gratitude towards the government for its support.
