Malkangiri, June 22: The civil society organisation in Odisha’s Malkangiri district has demanded action against SDPO over the attack on tribal women in the RAC 13 village on June 13. They have urged the government for transfer of SDPO, Anshuman Dwivedy who led the police team to conduct a midnight raid in the village following which scores of innocent women were allegedly assaulted by the cops. Sources said, acting on a tip-off regarding ganja trafficking, a team of armed police forces conducted a raid in the RAC 13 village. However, without any search warrant, the police allegedly thronged into the tribal people’s houses forcefully in the mid-night, in the presence of Dwivedy. Responding to it, the locals opposed the illegal raids of the police. Subsequently, police thrashed the people violently. As a result, at least 20 women sustained critical injuries during the scuffle and were later hospitalized. Reacting to it, the locals staged a protest before the Chitrakonda police station on Tuesday and ransacked the police station. Following this, the police arrested as many as 18 persons in this connection.
