Bhubaneswar, Oct 12: Governor of Odisha, Prof Ganeshi Lal has given his assent to the Odisha Municipal Laws (Amendment) Act, 2021, paving the way for the much-awaited elections to urban local bodies (ULBs). The Law Department has issued a gazette notification in this regard.
As per the provisions of the Odisha Municipal Laws (Amendment) Bill 2021, the upper limit of reservation for SCs, STs, and Backward Classes in urban local bodies (ULBs) elections should not exceed 50 percent.
According to experts, it will take two to three months for the civic authorities to finish the delimitation and reservation exercise based on which, the State Election Commission has to prepare the electoral rolls and set the polls in process. It is being expected that the urban poll will be held in the second half of the next year.
