More than 5.15 lakh people across 22 districts have been affected by the floods. In just the last 24 hours, one person drowned in Hojai district, while two others are still missing in Hailakandi and Dibrugarh districts.

As of June 2, the floods have impacted 1,254 villages across 65 areas in these districts, including Hailakandi, Hojai, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, and others. The Brahmaputra and Barak rivers, along with their smaller tributaries, are flowing above danger levels at several locations such as Neamatighat and Tezpur. Floodwaters have submerged over 12,600 hectares of farmland, causing significant damage to crops.

Sribhumi is the hardest-hit district, with over 1.94 lakh people affected. Other severely impacted districts include Cachar (77,961 people), Nagaon (67,880), Lakhimpur (47,127), Hailakandi (30,234), Dibrugarh (20,179), and Tinsukia (19,289). Nearly 1.85 lakh people have taken shelter in 322 relief camps and distribution centers set up by local authorities.

The floods have also affected around 4.67 lakh animals, with 94 lost in the last 24 hours. Infrastructure has suffered as well—49 roads, four bridges, and three embankments have been damaged or breached by the floodwaters.

Heavy rains continue to batter the northeast region, causing widespread flooding, landslides, and rising river levels not only in Assam but also in Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and neighboring states.

Earlier on May 2, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall would persist in the Northeastern states for the next two days before easing. It also predicted isolated heavy rainfall in Nagaland, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Tripura.
