Bhawanipatna, Feb 21: Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary in Kalahandi has now become a death trap for elephants. An elephant calf was found dead at Ghusurigudi area today.
With the death of the animal total death tally now stands at seven.
A central team is reviewing the origin of elephant deaths at Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forest , wildlife Sashi Paul said, a four-member team comprising senior veterinarian from Guwahati Veterinary College KK Sarma, Centre for Wildlife (ICAR-IVRI Bareilly) scientist Karikalan Mathesh, MoEF&CC Elephant Cell national coordinator Prajna P Panda, head of department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at OUAT Prof Niranjan Sahoo are visiting the sanctuary today. They will examine all the reason behind elephant’s death within four days. They will also study the domain of septicaemia infection that led to sudden deaths of the elephants.
