Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: The fourth annual flora and fauna survey in Chilika lagoon began here today to assess the bio-diversity of the lagoon eco-system, informed Chilika Development Authority (CDA) Chief Executive Sushant Kumar Nanda.
A total of 100 technical personnel will be engaged for the enumeration. The survey will be conducted by 16 groups comprising of 5-6 members in each group, and about 100 researchers and scientists. Besides, 18 boats are also deployed.
With the help of binoculars on the GPS track, the teams will be counting and researching small gloom grass, plants, aquatic animals, exotic birds and dolphins, etc. in Chilila.
All Boat Owners Associations and PFCSs Members have been requested not to ply the boats from 6 am to 12 Noon. So, visitors are requested not to visit Chilika during the period.
The annual bird counting exercise and Chilika on January 5 had revealed record presence of more than 12 lakhs of migratory bird. The lake witnesses congregation of more than one million migratory birds for two successive years.
