Bhubaneswar, Mar 1: The final hearing on Anjana Mishra case came up today in the Orissa High Court and was disposed off on the ground that all the accused had got arrested and the alleged conspirators are dead.
A division bench of the Orissa High Court comprising Chief Justice S Muralidhar and Justice BP Routray made hearing on the matter.
The prime accused of the incident Bibekananda Biswal aka Biban, who had been evading arrest for last 22 years, was arrested from Pune on February 22. The other two accused Padia and Dhirendra Mohanty had been arrested earlier in 1999.
Dissatisfied with the CBI’s slow pace of investigation, a case was filed in the Orissa High Court by the rape victim Anjana Mishra herself in June 2002. On behalf of Anjana, her advocate Bibhu Prashad Tripathy had filed the petition praying for arrest of the prime accused.
Its first hearing took place on August 21, 2002 by a division bench comprising the Chief Justice P. K. Balasubramanyan and Justice A S Naidu.
The bench had issued a show-cause notice to the CBI, the investigating agency that was investigating the case.
