Bhubaneswar, May 13: Public transport services in Bhubaneswar were severely disrupted on Monday as drivers and conductors of the "Ama Bus" service staged a protest, demanding enhanced safety measures following alleged attacks by commuters.
All buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) have been withdrawn from service and parked at various depots, bringing citywide operations to a halt. The protesting staff claimed they have been subjected to repeated unprovoked assaults while on duty.
Citing a recent incident near Press Chhak, where a Mo Bus staff member was reportedly attacked, the protesters alleged that despite repeated complaints to authorities, no action has been taken to address their concerns.
"We will not resume services unless the state government assures our safety and takes concrete steps to prevent such attacks," said one of the drivers leading the protest.
Commuters across the city were left stranded, with no immediate alternative arrangements announced. Meanwhile, CRUT is yet to issue an official statement or respond to the ongoing agitation.
As the deadlock continues, the absence of public buses has caused significant inconvenience to daily passengers, raising concerns over the delay in conflict resolution.
