ALO registers FIR against PWD officials in Rayagada for engaging child labourers

Rayagada, Aug 12: Assistant Labour Officer (ALO) of Rayagada has registered a complaint against the PWD Executive Engineer for allegedly employing child labourers in construction work in the district. Acting on it, a Rayagda DSP has initiated an investigation into the matter. Sources said Rayagada Childline came to know that as many as 12 child labourers were working at an Oxygen plant constructed at Rayagada district headquarters hospital. Subsequently, the ALO and the Childline officials jointly raided the spot and rescued the child labourers. Ultimately, they were handed over to their parents. Later on, the ALO lodged a complaint with the Rayagada police station against the Executive Engineer and the executing agency. The investigation is underway. Legal actions will be taken against the offenders, said ASP, Rayagada Ram Prasad Sahu.
