After Varanasi's Gyanvapi, activists claim Jamia Masjid in Karnataka was originally a temple

Bengaluru. May 16: Amid legal and religious turmoil in Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi, activists of a right-wing organisation of Karnataka on Monday filed a memorandum with the Deputy Commissioner of Mandyaclaiming that Jamia Masjid in the city was originally a Hindu temple.

The activists have demanded permission to perform puja in the mosque, alleging that the structure was originally the temple of Lord Anjaneya that was converted into a mosque.

They also claimed that there is historical proof of Tipu Sultan writing about the conversion of the temple into a mosque in a letter to the king of Persia Khalif.

They have further demanded that the archaeological department must consider the documents and investigate the matter.

They also demanded permission for taking bath in the pond situated inside the premises of the mosque.
