Administration stops child marriage in Ganjam

Digapahandi, Dec 3: Child marriage of a 13-year-old girl was stopped in Ganjam district last night. Acting on a tip-off, a Kukudahandi tehsildar, Dr Ipsita Priyadarshini Mishra raided the marriage venue in Kumarpur village with the help of Sadar police and rescued the minor girl. They also stopped the marriage feast that was organised for around 10,000 people defying Covid guidelines. The officials informed the girl's family about the marriage law took an undertaking that they would not get her married till she turns 18. Under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, the marriage of a boy below 21 years of age and a girl below 18 is an offence.
