Chatrapur, Jan 13:With the objective to encourage sporting talent among rural youth, Adani Foundation organised an Inter-Village Cricket Tournament involving young players from villages located in the peripheral areas of Gopalpur Port. The tournament is being held at the Bandargaon playground under Kalipalli panchayat.
Chhatrapur MLA Krushna Chandra Nayak joined the inaugural programme as the chief guest and formally opened the tournament by cutting the ribbon and breaking coconut on the ground in the presence of Prashanta Patra, Business Head, Gopalpur Port with large number of local youths, community leaders and senior officials from Gopalpur Port and Adani Foundation.
A total of eight teams from six panchayats from Gopalpur Port periphery are participating in the tournament. All matches will be played in a 12-over format. Seven matches will be played during the tournament. The final match is scheduled to be held on 16thJanuary.
Local sports enthusiasts and community leaders appreciated Adani Foundation’s initiative, stating that such events help motivate rural youth and provide a platform to showcase cricketing talent at the village level.The primary aim of the tournament is to encourage young players to actively participate in sports and nurture emerging talent from the surrounding villages of Gopalpur Port.
