Mumbai, May 19: Actress Shilpa Shirodkar has tested positive for COVID-19, she revealed in a social media post on Monday. Taking to Instagram, Shilpa wrote, “Hello people! I've been tested positive for COVID. Stay safe and wear your masks!” She also urged the public to remain cautious, as a fresh wave of COVID-19 has been reported in several countries.
Meanwhile, in the world of sports, Australian cricketer and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) player Travis Head has also contracted the virus. SRH head coach Daniel Vettori confirmed the development, stating that Head was unable to travel with the team due to the infection. "He actually had COVID, so he could not travel. He will get in tomorrow (Monday) and we will assess how he is after that," Vettori said during a pre-match press conference on Sunday.
In another significant development, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine for specific groups — individuals aged 65 and older, and those aged 12 and up with underlying health conditions that increase their risk of severe illness.
“Market research and U.S. CDC statistics indicate that older individuals and those with underlying conditions are the populations most likely to seek out COVID-19 vaccination seasonally,” said John Jacobs, President and CEO of Novavax, in a statement to CNN. “This significant milestone demonstrates our commitment to these populations and marks a major step toward wider availability of our protein-based vaccine option.”
