Paralakhemundi, Sept 30: Nearly five years after Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra died from burn injuries, Paralakhemundi police on Wednesday arrested cook Manmath Kumbha in connection with the case.

Kumbha was arrested from his native village in the early hours while police were executing a non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued by the SDJM Court in Paralakhemundi.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team reached the village and apprehended him. He was subsequently taken for a medical examination and was to be produced before the SDJM court for further legal proceedings.

The NBW was issued in connection with a case registered under Sections 302 and 120-B of the IPC.
Mohapatra suffered severe burn injuries at his official residence in Paralakhemundi in July 2021. After receiving initial treatment locally, he was shifted to Cuttack for advanced treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
