Jaypur, Oct 7: The death toll in Monday’s tragic road accident at Dashmantpur Chhak under Panchada Panchayat in Lakshmipur block of Koraput district has risen to two, following the death of another injured family member.

Pitabasa Muduli of Katraamba and his 3-year-old daughter, who were critically injured in the accident, succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput. Earlier, Pitabasa’s daughter Guguni had died on the spot during the incident.

Pitabasa’s wife Basanti and their 5-year-old son Sanjay are still undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

The accident, which deeply shocked the local community, led to a protest demanding compensation. Agitated locals staged a blockade on National Highway-326, disrupting traffic movement for nearly 21 hours. The roadblock was lifted at around 10:15 AM today, restoring normal vehicular movement on the route.
