Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: Commissionerate police on Monday, arrested an Editor of a Bhubaneswar-based web Channel in connection with the abduction of a mineral trader for ransom. The accused has been identified as Raghunath Sahu alias Raj. Nandankanan police arrested Raghunath from Kolkata last night, who had run to evade police action. Earlier, the Commissionerate Police arrested four persons, including a lady journalist of the web channel on the charges of abducting the mineral trader and his associate. Sources said the businessman from the Barbil area and his associate from the Kendrapara area were called to Bhubaneswar by some members of the web channel on August 5. The accused allegedly held the duo hostage at an isolated place on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar and demanded extortion of Rs 5 lakh in lieu of their release. The duo was held hostage and tortured by the accused for two consecutive days. However, they were released after their family members allegedly paid off a ransom of Rs 50,000 to the abductors. The matter came to the fore after the businessman’s associate lodged a complaint with Nandankanan police in connection with the incident. Acting on it, police arrested four persons including the lady journalist. The so-called kingpin of the whole episode has been nabbed by police today, said police.
