Durga Puja 2025: Bhubaneswar Police outlines strict safety measures

Bhubaneswar, Sept 2: As preparations for Durga Puja 2025 are in full swing, the Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar has made public safety and security its top priority during the upcoming festivities. The measures were discussed in a detailed preparatory meeting held at Police Seva Bhawan on Monday, chaired by Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh.

The meeting was attended by MLAs Babu Singh (Ekamra) and Nabakishor Mallick (Jayadev), senior police officers, district officials, and representatives from nearly 190 Puja Committees. The focus was on ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols, traffic management, and cultural discipline throughout the celebrations.

Key safety measures outlined include enhanced police deployment, effective crowd control around Puja pandals, and stringent fire safety regulations. All Puja Committees have been instructed to install firefighting equipment, ensure proper entry and exit points, and train volunteers in emergency response procedures. Additionally, CCTV cameras will be mandatory, while bans on DJs, laser lights, and restrictions on "Ravan Podi" to designated safe areas were also confirmed.

Special attention will be given to the safety of women and children, with dedicated “HER Teams” to be stationed at major pandals. In line with the ongoing anti-drug initiative Operation PRAHAR, the campaign will be stepped up during the festival. Puja Committees have also been urged to promote the “Say No to Drugs” message.

Civic and utility departments have pledged additional support, with the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) set to repair damaged roads, ensure water supply, and install bio-toilets at key locations. TPCODL will ensure an uninterrupted power supply and remove any unsafe hanging wires along procession routes.

Representatives from major Puja Committees, including those from Jharpada, Rasulgarh, Palasuni, Nayapalli, Capital No. 1, Sailashree Vihar, Dumduma, and others, attended the meeting and expressed their commitment to cooperating with the police for a smooth celebration.

The Commissionerate Police reiterated its commitment to supporting Puja organizers and urged the public to celebrate responsibly, ensuring that Durga Puja 2025 remains safe, peaceful, and joyful for all.
