96 inmates of Jharapada jail test Covid-19 positive

Bhubaneswar, May 21: As many as 96 inmates of Jharapada jail tested Covid-19 positive on Thursday. All positive ones are now undergoing treatment in eight isolation cells inside the jail.The medical officer of the jail is taking care of them. Sources said, Jharapada jail authorities conducted Corona test of 195 inmates on May 18 after 11 employees of it tested Corona positive few days ago. Test results of 96 prisoners came positive out of them. A team of doctor and paramedical staff are taking their intensive care while the serious ones are to be referred to the Covid hospital, said a jail official. On the other hand, sanitation and sanitization work inside the jail has been intensified. Besides, the other inmates are also closely being observed to trace out Corona like symptoms in them. At the same time, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is taking further steps to test the rest 700 under trial prisoners. Notably, the Department of Prison took up advanced steps to contain Corona inside the jail after an under trial prisoner Tripati Mohanty succumbed to Corona in SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack recently.
