Balasore, Sept 14: As Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated with grandeur across villages and cities, a unique artistic tribute to Lord Ganesha has caught attention in Jaleswar of Balasore district.
Sand artist Ajay Kumar Ghosh has brought a powerful episode from the mythological story of Lord Ganesha to life through a massive rangoli artwork.

Measuring around 8 feet in length and 6 feet in width, the artwork depicts the emotional moment when Lord Ganesha’s elephant head is placed on his human body.
According to the popular mythological account, Goddess Parvati had instructed young Ganesha to guard the entrance while she bathed. When Lord Shiva arrived and was stopped by Ganesha from entering, a confrontation followed. In a fit of anger, Shiva severed Ganesha’s head.
Later, upon learning that Ganesha was his own son, Shiva sought to bring him back to life. As part of the legend, an elephant’s head was brought and placed on Ganesha’s body, giving rise to the iconic form of Lord Ganesha.
It is this deeply emotional moment that Ajay has recreated through his intricate rangoli. Every section of the artwork has been designed to reflect the devotion, emotion and spiritual significance associated with the legend.
Through the depiction of the elephant head being joined with Ganesha’s human body, the artist has combined religious devotion with his artistic skill.
Ajay, who works as a teacher, continues to pursue his passion for art alongside his professional responsibilities. Through his artworks, he aims to convey messages related to festivals, mythology and social issues to the public.
