Bhubaneswar, July 22: Odisha has 76 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and five Central Higher Educational Institutions (CHEIs) operating under the Ministry of Education, Union Minister of State for Education Dr. Sukanta Majumdar informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

In a written reply to a question raised by Odisha Rajya Sabha MP Dilip Kumar Ray, the Minister said the information was compiled from the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2025-26 and the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2023-24.

According to the data, Khordha district has the highest number of Kendriya Vidyalayas in Odisha with 10 schools, followed by Angul and Ganjam with seven each. Sambalpur has five KVs, while Balangir and Cuttack have four each.

The Ministry also stated that several districts, including Bargarh, Bhadrak, Boudh, Deogarh, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Nuapada and Subarnapur (Sonepur), have one or two Kendriya Vidyalayas.

Odisha's five Central Higher Educational Institutions are the Central University of Odisha in Koraput, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela in Sundargarh, the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur in Ganjam, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar in Khordha.

The UDISE+ 2025-26 data shows that 2,245 teachers are serving in Kendriya Vidyalayas across the state.

Meanwhile, the AISHE 2023-24 report indicates that the five Central Higher Educational Institutions in Odisha collectively have 753 teachers, 686 non-teaching staff and 1,758 PhD scholars.
