Saranda, June 4: In a major breakthrough, security forces on Wednesday morning recovered 700 kilograms of explosives during an intensive search operation in the Saranda forest. The explosives, believed to have been hidden underground by Maoist operatives, mark the latest seizure in an ongoing crackdown.

This comes just two days after 2.5 tons of explosives were recovered from the same area, highlighting the scale of the Maoist stockpiling efforts. Security forces have intensified their operations in the region and are continuing the search for more hidden explosives.

According to official sources, the investigation began after a consignment of four tons of explosives was looted by Maoists on May 27. The explosives were being transported from the Itma warehouse in Badgaon to the Banko stone quarry under the jurisdiction of K. Balang police station when the incident occurred.

Following the heist, security forces launched a combing operation in the dense Saranda forest, leading to the recovery of a significant portion of the stolen explosives. With 2.5 tons already seized and an additional 700 kilograms recovered on Wednesday, forces remain deployed in the area as the search for the remaining materials continues.
