Latur, August 29: In a bid to lead by example and ensure strict compliance with road-safety regulations, police authorities in Maharashtra’s Latur district have taken action against 58 police personnel, including officers, for riding two-wheelers without helmets.

The action comes ahead of the district-wide enforcement of mandatory helmet use from September 1, aimed at reducing road accidents and preventing fatalities.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Amol Tambe has made it clear that police personnel will not be given any exemption from the helmet rule. He stressed that those entrusted with enforcing the law must first adhere to it themselves.

The move is expected to reinforce the importance of helmet use among police personnel as well as the general public and underline the administration’s commitment to road safety.
