Bhubaneswar: As many as 5,48,454 new voters have been added to the voters’ list, informed Chief Electoral Officer Surendra Kumar in a press conference here.
With the inclusion of new voters, the number of voters have increased to 3,18,00787 from 3,12,52,333, added Kumar.
Kumar said that names of at least 6,50,365 voters have been deleted from the list during the voters’ list preparation due to various reasons.
Notably, a total of 12 lakh voters were included during the voters’ list preparation, among which 5 lakh are the first-time voters, said Odisha Chief Electoral Officer Surendra Kumar in a press conference here.
Earlier, Kumar said that the EVMs and VVPATS have been received from six states and from ECIL, Hyderabad for conduct of the upcoming general elections.
Though the VVPAT was used during the Bijepur bye-election, the Election Commission of India has decided to use the machine in all 147 Assembly Constituencies for the first time to maintain transparency during the forthcoming general elections.
