Berhampur, Nov 15: Six persons have been arrested including four servitors in connection with the theft of ornaments and cash from Tara Tarini temple in Odisha's Ganjam district, police said on Friday.
The accused have been identified as Amulya Rana (28), Bikash Rana (20), Rabin Kumar Rana of Gobindapur and Goutam Rana of Pratapur -- servitors of the temple.
The other two are the night watchmen of the temple – Kalia Dash (35) and Balaram Nayak (45) of Raipur.
Notably, unidentified miscreants broke into Tara Tarini temple complex and decamped with ornaments worth lakhs of rupees at Purushottampur in Ganjam district late on November 4 night.
Silver ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh were stolen from the temple. Among the items stolen were the silver crowns of the deities, a ceremonial umbrella, according to police.
The anti-socials reportedly broke the locks of the donation box but couldn’t loot the money kept inside it.
The theft came to light when servitors reached the temple in the morning and found the locks of the main gate and the metal grills broken.
