4 quintal ganja seized from Jackfruit-laden truck in Koraput

Lamptaput, May 14: Lamptaput-Nandapur police seized 4 quintal of ganja from a Jackfruit-laden vehicle and arrested two persons in this connection late last night. The accused have been identified as Rajendra and Babu Singh of Rajasthan. Acting on a tip-off, under the direction of Koraput SP, Nandapur SDPO along with Lamptaput police officials intercepted a vehicle near Badapada ghats and seized 4 quintal of ganza from 15 sacks stashed inside a jackfruit-laden truck. The estimated value of the seized contraband would be worth around Rs 40 lakh, said a police official. Police also arrested two accused in this regard. The accused during interrogation said they were carrying the ganja from Koraput to Rajasthan. Worth mentioning, Macchakunda police has registered 42 cases of ganja smuggling since March 2020 with seizure of over 100 quintals of ganja and arrest of 42 people in this connection. As many as 42 vehicles have been seized during the drive. Nandapur SDPO Sanjay Mahapatra said the peddlers are taking the opportunity of lockdown to smuggle the contraband.
