Bhubaneswar, Sept 27: Odisha marked World Tourism Day with a landmark statewide fitness movement as more than 10,000 people participated in a synchronised Promo Run across 32 locations to build momentum for the OMC Puri Coastal Marathon 2026.
Organised by the Department of Tourism, the Promo Run brought together runners, citizens, local communities and stakeholders across districts and Municipal Corporations, creating a collective celebration of fitness, tourism and community participation.
The initiative marked the first major statewide promotional activity ahead of the OMC Puri Coastal Marathon 2026, scheduled for December 13, in Puri. By bringing runners together simultaneously across the State, the event highlighted running as a platform for promoting healthier lifestyles while showcasing Odisha's tourism potential.
The upcoming marathon is envisioned as more than a sporting event. Set against the backdrop of Puri, it will offer participants an opportunity to experience Odisha's spectacular coastline, rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, hospitality and the spiritual significance of the holy city.
District and corporation-level authorities worked closely with the Department of Tourism and local stakeholders to successfully coordinate the Promo Runs and encourage participation across the State.
With the successful completion of the statewide initiative, Odisha has set the stage for the main event in Puri this December. The OMC Puri Coastal Marathon 2026 will bring together running enthusiasts and communities in a celebration that connects fitness, tourism, culture and the unique identity of coastal Odisha.
