Pulbani, July 29: The court of JMFC, Kotagarh today convicted as many as 30 persons for their involvement in the Kandhamal riots in 2008. The court awarded two years of imprisonment with Rs 1000 fine. The case was registered against the accused on the basis of a complaint filed by one Atulya Parichha of Bandapipili village. The victim had alleged that she was assaulted by a group of people during the Kandhamal riots in 2008. Subsequently, Kotagarh police had registered a case under various sections including 147 (punishment for rioting) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC). The verdict of the case came after 13 years while one of the accused have already died. Similarly the court has also issued NBWs against six others who were not present in the court.
