Bhubaneswar: A host of BJD leaders including some sitting and former MLAs, former MPs today joined the BJP at party’s State headquarters in Bhubaneswar. Former Mayurbhanj MP and JMM’s heavyweight leader Laxman Tudu also joined the national party.
Besides Laxman Tudu, three sitting MLAs of BJD- Debraj Mohanty of Aska, Sukant Nayak of Nilagiri, Purnachandra Nayak of Daspalla- embraced the saffron outfit in presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Party state president Basant Panda, Union Minister Jual Oram and other top leaders.
Similarly, former MLA from Polsara Niranjan Pradhan (BJD) Kasinath Mallick, former MLA of Daspalla, Kusum Tete (BJD) also switched over to BJP.
Besides, a large number of Zilla Parishad member, sarpanch, panchayat samiti members also jumped to the lotus pond.
Debraj, Sukant and Purnachandra, who were denied ticket by BJD, snapped ties with the regional party.
Similarly, Kusum Tete who unsuccessfully had contested from Sundergarh Assembly seat in 2014 was replaced with Jogesh Singh this time. She tendered her resignation to BJD chief yesterday, expressing resentment over ticket denial.
