Bhubaneswar: The reported death toll due to Cyclone ‘Fani’ increased to 37 in the State with two more persons succumbing to injuries during treatment on Tuesday, according to an official release.
While 21 died in Puri district, five people were killed in Cuttack and four in Mayurbhanj. Besides, four died in Jajpur and three in Kendrapada, said the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office.
The report claimed that the relief and restoration work is going on in full swing in the affected areas.
However, electricity and telecommunication are yet to be restored in Bhubaneswar and Puri even after five days of the cyclone hitting the coast.
According to an earlier official release, as many as 1,40,60,602 people under 16,074 villages in 155 blocks and 51 urban local bodies spread over 14 districts have been affected in the cyclonic storm. The affected districts are Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Dehankanal, Mayurbhanj, Baleswar and Bhadrak.
