Bastar, April 2: A significant shift in Bastar's security landscape has been reported, with 170 Maoist cadres surrendering in just one month, marking a major step toward achieving a Naxal-free Bastar. Among those who surrendered were senior Maoist cadre DKSZCM Paparao and several DVCM-level cadres. The Inspector General of Police confirmed this for the Bastar Range, Sundarraj Pattilingam.
In addition to the mass surrenders, security forces have recovered more than 343 weapons, including high-grade arms such as AK-47s, INSAS rifles, SLRs, BGL launchers, and LMGs. The recovery of these weapons has significantly weakened the military capabilities of the Maoist group.
The past 31 days have also seen the recovery of Rs 6.75 crore in cash and 8 kilograms of gold worth over Rs 12 crore, further indicating a severe disruption in the Maoists' funding sources.
Speaking on the progress, IG Sundarraj emphasized that under the "Mission 2026" initiative, Bastar is undergoing a historic transformation. Once plagued by violence and fear, the region is now steadily advancing toward peace, trust, and development. He credited the joint efforts of the security forces, the local administration, and the community for making this possible. The vision of a Naxal-free Bastar is now closer to realization than ever before.
A large number of former Maoist cadres are opting for a peaceful, dignified life through the "Poona Margham – Reintegration through Rehabilitation" program. Over the past 27 months, more than 2,700 Maoists have been rehabilitated, a clear reflection of the growing sense of trust and peace in the region.
Through decisive security operations, continuous surrenders, and the recovery of weapons and hidden caches, the structural and combat capabilities of the Maoist organization have been nearly eradicated. The collaborative efforts of the government, security forces, local authorities, and citizens have almost brought the target of a Naxal-free Bastar to fruition, with the government aiming for a Naxal-free India by March 31, 2026.
