13-year-old boy from Odisha becomes youngest in eastern India to receive successful heart transplant

Bhubaneswar, Mar 16: A 13-year-old boy of Keonjhar became the first child of Odisha and the youngest in eastern India, to receive successful heart transplant.
The boy Badal Paida underwent the surgery at Narayana Super Speciality Hospital in Howrah, West Bengal. Officials said that Odisha government arranged for the surgery at no cost to the patient.
Officials said that the heart that Paida received was retrieved from a 22-year-old man who was declared brain dead at a Calcutta based private hospital on March 1. The donor met with an accident while returning home on his two-wheeler in West Midnapore’s Sabong.
